4 Questions to Ask Before Beginning Your Smile Makeover

A smile makeover allows your dentist to address all of the cosmetic flaws in your grin with a combination of treatments. Of course, since this process can take quite a bit of time and money, you’ll want to have any concerns properly addressed before you start. Below are 4 examples of questions you need to ask during your initial consultation for a smile makeover.

1. Exactly What Procedures Will Be Involved?

Your smile makeover plan will be customized according to your needs. Maybe you need teeth whitening to get rid of any discoloration on your enamel. Or perhaps you need veneers to cover multiple chipped or slightly misaligned teeth. It’s important to be familiar with all of the treatments that will be performed as part of your smile makeover so that you can prepare for each one accordingly.

2. How Long Will the Process Take?

The timeline for a smile makeover will look different for every patient. If there are only minimal imperfections that need to be corrected, you might be able to complete the process in as little as two visits. More complex cases, on the other hand, might require months of treatment. Your dentist will only be able to give you an estimate for the length of the process once they’ve carefully examined your mouth and determined your specific needs.

3. How Long Will the Results Last?

Exactly how long can you expect your new smile to last? The answer depends on what treatments were used. Cosmetic dental bonding typically lasts between 3 to 10 years; meanwhile, metal-free dental crowns and veneers can last for more than a decade if they receive the right care.

During your initial consultation, your dentist will explain the expected longevity of each treatment involved in your smile makeover plan, and they’ll give you tips for maintaining the results as long as possible.

4. How Much Will Your Smile Makeover Cost?

Before you commit to any part of your smile makeover plan, you should make sure that you understand the costs involved. Your dentist can explain how much you can expect to pay for your smile makeover as well as what options are available to make it more affordable. Keep in mind that dental insurance usually won’t pay for purely cosmetic procedures, but treatments with restorative purposes (such as crowns for damaged teeth) are often eligible for coverage.

These are just a few examples of questions you might bring up before having a smile makeover done. If you have any other concerns, remember that you always have the option of reaching out to your dentist and their team.
