Gum Disease Treatment – McKinney, TX
Healthy Gums Lead to a Healthy Smile
Teeth aren’t the only part of your smile that you need to be concerned about. Without healthy gums, your teeth wouldn’t be able to stay in place, bite, or chew properly. Basically, your gums are the foundation of a healthy smile, and they deserve the same care and attention that your teeth do. If you notice that your gums are red and swollen or bleed easily when you brush or floss, then you may have the beginnings of gum disease, a serious condition that can eventually lead to tooth loss without treatment. Do you have the signs of gum disease? Contact our dental team and schedule your visit with Dr. Parmar to discuss gum disease treatment in McKinney, TX today!

Scaling & Root Planing
If caught early enough, gum disease can be treated with a normal professional cleaning. However, if the condition is more advanced, we’ll need to perform scaling and root planing. Basically, we clean out the deep pockets of trapped plaque and bacteria below the gum line, and then we smooth the roots’ rough surfaces to facilitate healing and make reinfection in the future less likely. After three or four months, you’ll return to our dental office so that we can perform these procedures again to make sure that the infection is completely gone.
Antibiotic Therapy
As efficient and skilled as Dr. Parmar and our team are at eliminating gum disease through scaling and root planing, there are spots that aren’t easily accessed with our tools, and we may miss some hidden pockets. In many cases, we can also apply a topical antibiotic to your gumline. Over time, it penetrates to reach these areas and kill harmful bacteria. Again, we may need to repeat this treatment about every three to four months until we’re certain that you’re infection free.
